- Pro-Am’s MMG, Porsche Set Sail in Wet Weather
- DXDT Racing Pro
- Practice 2 Unofficial Results
A light drizzle of rain spread across the track as the Fanatec GT World Challenge powered by AWS field returned for Practice 2 at Barber Motorsports Park on Friday afternoon.
Oh dear, or should we say oh deer, an early red flag was brought out in the opening ten minutes for a rather unique reason when a deer made its way onto the circuit, but the action was able to get back underway quickly. A second red flag came about just after the halfway mark for a brief off-track incident, but this time there was no wildlife involved.
MMG mastered the slippery surface, as the Pro-Am team claimed the best time overall, while DXDT Racing’s Pro entry went above the rest in their respective class.
Pro Class
Alec Udell put the No. 63 DXDT Racing Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R back in prime position, inching just 0.069 seconds ahead of the No. 99 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT3 of Conor Daly to claim the top spot in the Pro class.
Elliott Skeer wrapped up his Friday running with another consecutive third place finish in his No. 120 Wright Motorsports Porsche 992 GT3 R, putting in his best lap time in the rain towards the end of his time on track. Meanwhile, ST Racing’s Varun Choksey and Bill Auberlen clocked in the most laps out of any of the Pro teams, completing 18 laps in total in their No. 28 BMW M4 GT3.
Pro-Am Class
The wet conditions made things interesting as there were numerous teams leap-frogging each other on the leaderboard as the session progressed. In this case, it was the Canadian who got acclimated to the cooler temperatures, as Kyle Marcelli went quickest in Pro-Am and overall in the No. 92 MMG Porsche 992 GT3 R with a time of 1:32.903, also making him the only driver to set a lap below the 1:33 mark.
It was a strong afternoon for Porsche, as Tom Sargent went second-quickest overall in the No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 992 GT3 R, followed by Trent Hindman going third-fastest in class on board the No. 85 RS1 Porsche 992 GT3 R.
Mercedes entries Regulator Racing and Chouest Povoledo Racing completed the top 5 in Pro-Am, with Phillip Ellis commanding the No. 91 Mercedes-AMG GT3, and Aaron Povoledo in the No. 50 Mercedes-AMG GT3.
