At the SRO America Awards Banquet, held in Indianapolis following the season finale event, the 2024 driver, team, and manufacturer champions were celebrated on a global stage, highlighting the immense level of success and accomplishments that have been achieved throughout the year. However, this night was extra special as an additional honor was also presented for the first time.
In collaboration with Women in Motorsports North America, SRO Motorsports Group introduced the WIMNA SRO Inspire Award, a prestigious recognition given to a woman in motorsports who embodies leadership and inclusivity, and acts as a role model for all. The inaugural WIMNA SRO Inspire Award was presented to Samantha Tan, driver of the No. 38 ST Racing BMW M4 GT3 in the Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS championship.
As the award was peer-nominated and voted, Tan received an overwhelming amount of support from those in the SRO paddocks. Her accomplishments on track this season were a statement on their own, with significant success including three wins and seven podium finishes, concluding her Pro-Am campaign as Vice Champion.
However, it’s her presence and influence off-track as well that has continued to make waves and break through barriers, redefining the possibilities for women in motorsports. She advocates for increased conversations on representation and diversity, proudly showcases her cultural heritage, and raises awareness regarding the hurdles that marginalized groups face, all with the objective of proving to all generations that change is possible.
As she accepted the WIMNA Inspire Award, she expressed her gratitude and went on to say “I can’t take all the credit. I’m made of little parts of all the women I’ve ever loved and been loved by. I’ve stood on the shoulders of those who came before me, and I have the girls and women in the paddock to thank for keeping my head high and heart strong.”
“I’d like to dedicate this award to my incredible team,” she continued. “Although we didn’t win the championship, we’ve inspired many along the way, and to me, that is a victory in itself.”
Along with the award, Tan will also be granted an all-expenses-paid trip to the fourth annual Women with Drive IV Summit, which will take place from December 9th to 11th, 2024.
