The 2024 GT World Challenge America Season in Review

The 2024 season of the Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS championship was nothing short of spectacular, with new winners, star studded lineups, nail-biting battles, and a championship title coming down to the final race. Spanning from coast to coast across seven thrilling race weekend events, the series took the country by storm, putting on the best displays of GT racing in cities across the nation.

As SRO America gears up for what’s to come in 2025, it’s time for a little trip down memory lane to revisit all the action that unfolded this past year.

• The championship showdown in the Pro class came down to the wire, as Wright Motorsports and DXDT Racing were separated by only 7 points heading into the final round of the season at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In the end, it was Adam Adelson and Elliott Skeer who emerged with the championship crowns, claiming the Indy 8 Hour win and the title. They concluded their season with 257 points, which also encompassed three wins and seven podiums.

• Vice-Champions DXDT Racing had a stellar season of their own as well. After making their debut in the Pro class with their No. 63 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R in Austin, Texas, they quickly established themselves as frontrunners in the championship. Alec Udell and Tommy Milner were nearly unstoppable, claiming eight consecutive wins spanning from the rounds at Circuit of The Americas to Barber Motorsports Park.

• In the Pro-Am class, it was a battle of the BMW teams as ST Racing and Turner Motorsport were both vying for the championship heading into Indianapolis. Although the former came into the event with the upper hand, issues on track for Samantha Tan and Neil Verhagen, accompanied by Turner Motorsport’s strong performance, saw Justin Rothberg and Robby Foley take the top spot in the standings once the checkered flag waved. When all was said and done, the Turner Motorsport duo clinched the title by a mere three points over ST Racing.

• Regulator Racing finished third in the Pro-Am rankings, but accomplished a highly impressive feat earlier in the season. At VIRginia International Raceway, Jeff Burton and Phillip Ellis not only claimed their first win of the season, but they also took home the overall victory in the process, marking the only time a Pro-Am entry has done so this year. They went on to secure another class win at Barber Motorsports Park as well.

• With thirteen rounds over the course of the season, the GT World Challenge America competitors raced for a grand total of 26 hours, most notably including the Indy 8 Hour endurance event to finish off the year.

• The fastest race lap of the year was set at Barber Motorsports Park by GMG Racing’s Tom Sargent, with a flying lap time of 1:22.161. However, Phillip Ellis was the driver to score the most fastest laps throughout the season, earning this distinction on seven different occasions.

• The series clocked in an astonishing 901 laps over the course of the year. The Indy 8 Hour accounted for 320 of those laps, with Race 1 at Barber Motorsports Park having the most laps completed during any of the 90-minute rounds, with 64.
