- Practice 2 Results
The GT World Challenge America powered by AWS teams brought the heat for Practice 2 in the hot afternoon Texan sun. The field had another 60 minutes of action around Circuit of The Americas to put in the work to refine their machinery. A red flag briefly interrupted the session in the opening minutes, but the green flag running was able to resume shortly thereafter.
Regulator Racing showed their speed around the 3.41-mile racetrack, with Philip Ellis going quickest overall in his Pro-Am Mercedes. In the Pro class, it was Kenton Koch who stood above the rest, with Negri going quickest in the Am class.
Pro Class
The No. 99 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT3 co-driven by Kenton Koch and Connor De Phillippi was the car to beat in the afternoon practice session. De Phillippi set an early fast lap that no one in the Pro Class was able to beat, although Belgian sensation Jan Heylan came close in the final 10 minutes of the session. The No. 18 RS1 Porshce 992 GT3 R co-driven by Heylan and Alex Sedgwick rose up to 4th overall and second in class with a few minutes to spare before Practice 2 concluded. It was a tight fight for the top spot in the Pro Class, as the BMW set a time of 2:04.323, while the Porsche did a 2:04.326.
Veteran racer Bill Auberlen had momentarily settled in second place early on in his No. 51 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT3, which he shares with Varun Choksey, but eventually the pairing dropped down to third in class and 9th overall. The No. 34 JMF Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 didn’t participate in the session as the team was plagued by a mechanical issue in Practice 1 earlier in the day.
Pro-Am Class
Regulator Racing dominated the Pro-Am Class and overall charts, with Swiss driver Philip Ellis setting the fastest lap of the session with 40 minutes to spare aboard the No. 91 Regulator Mercedes-AMG GT3. However, it was a close fight with Robby Foley, who set the second fastest lap in the No. 29 Turner Motorsports BMW M4 GT3, a mere 0.007 seconds off from Ellis.
Tom Sargent, who shares the No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 992 GT3 R with Kyle Washington, finished the session in third place, keeping the No. 8 Flying Lizard BMW M4 GT3 of Andy Lee and Elias Sabo at bay in fourth. Aaron Povoledo and Ross Chouest, co-commanding the No. 50 Chouest Povoledo Racing Corvette Z06 GT3.R rounded off the top 5.
The No. 163 AF Corse Ferrari 296 GT3 set the pace in the Am class, with Oswaldo Negri and Jay Schreibman going quickest in class. The newly-formed Dollahite Racing outfit finished second, with Scott Dollahite and Anthony Lazzaro sharing duties on the No. 6 Ford Mustang GT3.
