Canadian driver Mikaël Grenier has once again earned a place in the spotlight at the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa, securing a slot in Super Pole alongside teammates Maxi Götz and Maxime Martin. A familiar face in the GT World Challenge America powered by AWS series with JMF Motorsports and co-driver Michai Stephens, Grenier is no stranger to the iconic Belgian circuit. He has contested the 24 Hours of Spa multiple times, with eight starts and a best overall finish of 4th in 2022, and won the Gold Cup class in 2023, adding to a résumé that continues to grow on the international GT stage.
For this year’s edition, Grenier teams up with two seasoned Mercedes-AMG factory drivers, forming a formidable trio representing the German marque in one of the world’s toughest endurance races.
Despite mechanical issues during Qualifying, the team managed to sneak into Super Pole, though not without drama.
“We’re happy to be in Super Pole, but honestly, we got a little lucky,” said Grenier. “We had a problem in Q3 with the steering wheel, and Maxi could not downshift at all, so he ended up qualifying 62nd. We weren’t sure we would even make the cut. It’s a relief to be in Super Pole, but I think without that issue, we would’ve been in the Top 5 instead of 18th.”
While the team celebrated making it through to Friday’s two-lap shootout, the draw wasn’t in their favour. With Grenier and his crew set to be the third car on track for Super Pole, changing track conditions could have a major impact on the outcome.
“The only downside is the timing,” he explained. “The track will be drying and changing, which means the cars going out later will likely have a big advantage. So it’s not ideal, but we’ll make the most of it.”
Still, Grenier is keeping expectations grounded: “It’s great to be in Super Pole, but nothing extraordinary. As Pros, we’re expected to be there. The goal now is to start inside the Top 10. I think we have the car to do it, we just need the track conditions to hold up for our run.”
As the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa approaches, Grenier’s focus is firmly on delivering a strong performance and capitalizing on every opportunity the race presents.
