BMW Sets the Pace in Practice 1 at Road America

The bright sun and warm temperatures set the scene for Practice 1 on Friday morning. As the Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS field clocked in times around Road America, the order on the leaderboard changed constantly throughout the course of the 60-minute session.

A red flag interrupted the running with 13 minutes remaining on the clock, bringing the session to an early close. Varun Choksey and Bill Auberlen topped the Pro class and overall timesheets in the No. 28 ST Racing BMW M4 GT3, while Turner Motorsport’s Justin Rothberg and Robby Foley finished second overall and first in the Pro-Am category in the No. 29 BMW M4 GT3.

Pro Class

Varun Choksey and Bill Auberlen were the ones to beat in the Pro class, setting a fast lap early in the session in the No. 28 ST Racing BMW M4 GT3. Although fellow class competitors moved ahead of them briefly, they regained the top spot overall with a time of 2:05.773.

Luca Mars and Zach Veach set the second-quickest time in class on board the No. 93 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura NSX GT3 EVO22, while Elliott Skeer and Adam Adelson claimed third in the No. 120 Wright Motorsports Porsche 992 GT3 R.

The new No. 99 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT3 entry made its first official appearance on track, with Kenton Koch and Madison Snow getting off to a good start as they familiarized themselves with their new machine, finishing the session in fourth. They were accompanied by DXDT Racing’s Tommy Milner and Alec Udell in fifth place in the No. 63 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R.

Pro-Am Class

Turner Motorsport was the team to beat in the Pro-Am class, as Justin Rothberg and Robby Foley wasted no time clocking in flying laps in their No. 29 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3. The duo was a mere 0.452 seconds away from clinching the best lap time overall.

However, at the beginning of the session it was Tom Sargent who went quickest in the No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 992 GT3 R, co-driven by Kyle Washington. The pairing eventually had to settle for third place as the session concluded, behind the No. 38 ST Racing BMW M4 GT3 of Samantha Tan and Neil Verhagen.

Andy Lee and Elias Sabo, in their brand new No. 8 Flying Lizard Motorsports BMW M4 GT3, went fourth fastest, with new teammate pairing Bryson Morris and Bryan Sellers rounding off the top 5 in their No. 08 DXDT Racing Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R.

The Am class entries of AF Corse and Esse Racing with Mercedes-Benz of Austin came in first and second in their respective category. Jay Schreibman and Oswaldo Negri clinched the eleventh best time overall while commanding their No. 163 Ferrari 296 GT3. Meanwhile, Will Hardeman and Alan Metni were at the helm of the No. 19 Mercedes-AMG GT3.
