Sims, Liddy, and McDonald join DXDT for Indianapolis 8 Hour

Corvette factory driver Alexander Sims, Patrick Liddy, and Blake McDonald will be joining DXDT Racing for the Indianapolis 8 Hour presented by AWS, the final event of the 2024 Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS season. Sims will be joining Alec Udell and Tommy Milner in the Pro class No. 63 KÜHL Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R, while McDonald and Liddy will be teaming up with Bryan Sellers in the Pro-Am No. 63 KÜHL Corvette.

Despite a stacked CV that includes a win at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, a runner-up finish at the 24 Hours of Spa, and an IMSA GTP championship just last year, Sims will be taking on the challenge of the Indianapolis 8 Hour for the first time next month. Luckily, the Englishman, who rejoined the Corvette marque after that successful year with the Action Express Cadillac GTP program, will have a familiar face in the form of Corvette stablemate Milner.

“It’ll be really nice to have Simzy in the car with us at the 8 Hour,” remarked Milner. “He’s been very quick in the Pratt-Miller car in IMSA and is just unbelievably quick in everything he drives. He’s a great teammate and it will be awesome to have him in the paddock with us.”

Sims, who earlier this summer drove the Z06 GT3.R to its first victory in IMSA competition, is ready to join the No. 63 for their final championship push.

“I’m so excited to join DXDT in Indianapolis,” Sims said. “Tommy, Alec, and the team have had an incredible run this season, and I’m hopeful that we can continue that. To be honest, we’re up against a very tough field; it’s going to be difficult to get a result with all the great lineups. The first aim in any endurance race is to make it to the end without any issues, but I have full confidence in my co-drivers and the team in making that happen. I’m familiar with some of the team from past racing, so I know that they’re a great group who will prepare a very fast race car for us!”

On the other side of the garage, Sellers will have two new faces joining him in the No. 64 for the season finale. McDonald and Liddy, already teammates in their own right in the Asian Le Mans series and Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America, will be making their GT World Challenge debuts at the Brickyard.

McDonald will be making his multi-manufacturer GT3 debut after a couple seasons competing in Super Trofeo and Porsche Sprint Cup West. As the current points leader in the PSCW Pro/Am class, he will be hoping to wrap up the series championship the week before he joins up with DXDT in Indianapolis. McDonald will also be adding the Corvette GT3.R to the varied list of vehicles he’s raced in 2024, which also includes racing in LMP2 in the 2024 Asian Le Mans Series.

Liddy, a Pasadena, CA native, comes to the team with previous endurance racing success after taking the GTD class win at the 2023 running of Petit Le Mans. Additionally, the 2022 Radical Pro 1340 World Champion is looking to build on the success that he and McDonald have found in Super Trofeo competition, where they’ve achieved four podiums in their four appearances this season.

“It’s going to be awesome driving the Indy 8 Hour with DXDT in a couple weeks,” said McDonald. “Patrick and I have a lot experience together, and with Bryan showing us the ropes with the Corvette, I think we can aim for a great result.”

“Having driven against both Bryan and the Corvette in IMSA, it will be a welcome relief to be driving with them rather than banging doors on track!” added Liddy. “Neither Blake nor I have been in the Corvette yet, but DXDT has been doing a great job helping to jump the learning curve and I think I speak for both of us when I say that I’m excited to see what we can accomplish at Indy."

Both cars will get a chance to show what they’ve got when competition kicks off at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with practice and qualifying on Friday, October 4th, before taking the green flag at noon on October 5th.
