- Foley Sets Fastest Pro-Am and Overall Time
- De Phillippi Delivers Quickest Pro Time
- Provisional Practice 2 Results
In Practice 2, conditions evolved for the competitors racing in GT World Challenge America powered by AWS action compared to the morning’s practice session at Sebring International Raceway. Warm temperatures in the morning grew even hotter under the Florida skies on Friday afternoon, and so did the action on the track.
BMW entries paced both Pro-Am and Pro, with Turner Motorsport and Random Vandals Racing coming to the fore, respectively. Times are close across these classes heading into Saturday’s qualifying session.
Pro Class
The Random Vandals Racing squad emerged atop the timesheets in Practice 2, courtesy of Connor De Phillippi’s best time of 2:00.825 in the No. 99 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT3 EVO he shares with Kenton Koch. That time was just 0.162 of a second quicker than the second-placed car, co-commanded by Michai Stephens and Mikaël Grenier in the No. 34 JMF Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3. Grenier was fastest in Pro in Friday morning’s Practice 1.
RS1’s Jan Heylen and Alex Sedgwick in the No. 18 Porsche 992 GT3 R rounded off the top 3, with Varun Choksey and Bill Auberlen finishing in fourth place aboard the No. 51 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT3 EVO.
Pro-Am Class
Just under half an hour into the hour-long session, Robby Foley leapt to both the top of the Pro-Am and overall timesheets in his No. 29 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 EVO he shares with Justin Rothberg. His best time of 2:00.688 was just under one second slower than the Practice 1 best lap, owing in large part to the warmer temperatures. Porsche slotted into second in Pro-Am with Tom Sargent in the No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 992 GT3 R he co-drives with Kyle Washington. Sargent posted a best time of 2:00.927, with his flying lap coming later in the session.
Mercedes-AMG and Chevrolet made it four different manufacturers in the top four spots of Pro-Am. The No. 91 Regulator Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3, with Philip Ellis and Jeff Burton, was third ahead of Matt Bell and Blake McDonald in the No. 11 DXDT Racing Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R. The No. 92 LAB Motorsport by GT Racing Porsche 992 GT3 R of Jean-Frederic Laberge and Kyle Marcelli completed the top five in class.
Stefano Gattuso again paced the Am class in the No. 6 Dollahite Racing Ford Mustang GT3.
