Turner Motorsport Earns a Pair of Wins at Barber Motorsport Park

Turner Motorsport claimed two victories at Barber Motorsports Park during the penultimate weekend of the SRO season. Justin Rothberg took the win from pole in GT America, while and he and Robby Foley secured the win in GT World Challenge America. The team maintained the points lead in both championships going into the final race of the season.

Rothberg started the first GT World Challenge America race from fourth in class and gained a position before handing the No. 29 BMW M4 GT3 EVO over. Foley closed a 36-second gap and executed the pass for the win flawlessly.

“Race one was great for us here at Barber,” said Foley. “We pretty much executed a perfect race. I was able to get by the Corvette, and that really set us up from there. Hopefully, we can keep that momentum going.”

Foley started race two from third in Pro-Am. The action intensified during the second stint as Rothberg found himself in a relentless chase that became a five-car battle. Last lap drama ensued allowing the No. 29 to make a final pass for fourth. Unfortunately, a post-race review of Rothberg’s battle that ended with contact resulted in a penalty that put the No. 29 at the back of the field in ninth.

In Saturday’s GT America race, Rothberg qualified second, but pre-race rain forced the field onto wet tires to start the race. Despite pit stops being a rare occurrence during the 40-minute sprint race format, a fast-drying track prompted the those on wets to pit for slicks, including the No. 29 BMW M4 GT3 EVO. Rothberg pushed hard to the finish, setting the fastest lap of the race to secure pole position for race two and finish the race in fourth. Rothberg started his Turner BMW started on pole for race two, and never looked back, delivering a dominant performance and winning by over nine seconds.

The SRO season concludes October 16-19 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, Indiana.
