SRO America Drivers Taking on 24 Hours of Spa

SRO America Drivers Taking on 24 Hours of Spa

As one of the most demanding and prestigious endurance races in the world, the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa stands as an unrelenting test of speed, stamina, and strategy. It attracts GT racing talents from all over the globe, each striving for a shot to forever etch their names in the history books.

This year’s 77th running will see a collection of SRO America drivers battle it out in the 75-car field at Spa-Francorchamps, bringing with them a wealth of skill and ambition. From seasoned competitors with past Spa triumphs to first-timers eager to make their mark, these talents will swap their familiar American circuits for the daunting challenges of Belgium’s Ardennes forest, aiming to walk away with the coveted trophy.

Mikaël Grenier

The Canadian may be a new full-season face on the grid this season in the GT World Challenge America championship, but his level of experience is immeasurable. This year, the Mercedes Performance Driver joined the JMF Motorsports squad, bringing a great deal of skill and expertise as the team made their debut in GT3 competition in the Pro class.

Grenier has triumphed internationally, claiming prestigious victories and podiums around the globe across a variety of renowned championships. His impressive list of achievements also includes a class win in the 24 Hours of Spa. In 2025, he’ll be looking to add another, this time with the No. 9 Boutsen VDS Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO in the Pro class.

Philip Ellis

Philip Ellis, a fellow Mercedes Performance Driver, has also stood on the podium twice before in the Spa 24H event, but the win has eluded him. Equipped with the No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO in the Gold class for the 2025 edition, perhaps this attempt will yield the results he’s hoping for.

On the American front, he finds himself in a tight Pro-Am class championship battle. He and his Regulator Racing teammate, Jeff Burton, continued to build on their strong momentum from the year prior and have produced great results in the opening half of the season.

Tom Sargent

The Australian has quickly made a name for himself in the world of sportscar racing, recently being appointed as a Porsche Motorsport North America Selected Driver. His rapid rise has already seen him collect a number of wins and podiums for GMG Racing, but this is still only the beginning.

This will be his first time racing in the 24 Hours of Spa, a box he has been eager to tick. He’ll be going up against the Gold class in the No. 120 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R (992), sharing the car with Adam Adelson and Elliott Skeer, the 2024 GT World Challenge America Pro class champions.

Matt Bell & Blake McDonald

It did not take long for Matt Bell and Blake McDonald to get up to speed in the GT World Challenge America Pro-Am championship. The DXDT Racing teammates have already scored two wins and two podium finishes in their Corvette, and are showing no signs of slowing down.

Bell has already taken part in numerous outings at Spa, while this will be a first for McDonald. They will be swapping out their American machinery for an Italian prancing horse, joining AF Corse in the No. 70 Ferrari 296 GT3 in the Pro-Am class for the twice-around-the-clock race. They will also be driving with Custodio Toledo and Riccardo Agostini, who have made their own appearances in the American branch of the championship.

Connor De Phillippi

After joining Random Vandals Racing alongside Kenton Koch and Conor Daly for the 2024 Indy 8 Hour, he has stepped up into the role of full season driver for 2025. The results have spoken for themselves, accumulating four wins and one podium by the halfway point of the season, propelling the team into the Pro class championship lead.

The BMW Factory Driver is a proven winner on multiple fronts and has notched 24-hour victories in Daytona and the Nürburgring. Now, his aim is to add Spa to those accomplishments with the No. 15 BMW Italia Ceccato Racing BMW M4 GT3 EVO in the Bronze class.

Anthony McIntosh

Anthony McIntosh has been pulling double duty by competing, and succeeding, in both the Pirelli GT4 America and GT America powered by AWS championships. In the latter, he has built up a sizeable gap at the top of the leaderboard.

Having expressed his desire to chase victory in Europe, he’ll be stepping up to the plate in the No. 100 Beechdean Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 EVO in the Pro-Am class for the biggest GT3-only race in the world.

George Kurtz & Colin Braun

Although they are only competing in select events this season, George Kurtz and Colin Braun have been a winning combo in SRO America, and internationally, for many years now. They claimed the GT World Challenge America Pro-Am title together in 2023, and they share the incredibly rare accomplishment of having won two centenary editions of 24-hour endurance races; the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2023, and the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa in 2024.

This year, they will return to Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps on board the No. 4 CrowdStrike by SPS Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO to defend their victory in the Pro-Am class.

Past, Present, and Future of SRO

With such a storied history, there have been so many SRO America and Intercontinental GT Challenge stars over the years that have gone on to compete on this global stage, many of whom are set to line up on the starting grid in Belgium.

The 2025 edition will feature up-and-coming drivers like Loek Hartog, who competed with ACI Motorsports in Pirelli GT4 America at the opening rounds at Sonoma, and who was part of the pole-winning lineup in last year’s Indy 8 Hour. It will also see the return of experienced entrants such as Ian James, driver and team principal of the Heart of Racing Team.

As always, Spa is set to welcome a plethora of IGTC legends, including Jules Gounon, Charles Weerts, Sheldon and Kelvin Van Der Linde, Maro Engel, and Raffaele Marciello, to name a few.
